The Model

Built on trust at every layer

PEN Engineering is not a passive marketplace. We vet the experts, structure the engagement, and remain accountable to both sides throughout the duration of every contract.

01
Verified Expert Network

Every expert in the PEN network is credentialed, reviewed, and matched to specific technical domains. Clients engage with practitioners whose qualifications are confirmed before the first conversation.

02
Demand-Driven Matching

Organizations bring their project scope. Experts bring their credentials. PEN Engineering facilitates the fit — not through algorithmic matching, but through deliberate, technical alignment between need and capability.

03
Contract Oversight & Liability

PEN Engineering structures and oversees the contract between parties — managing scope, deliverables, and liability so that both the client and the expert operate with clear protections and defined expectations.

Services

Current Engineering Offerings

PEN Engineering is currently active in power systems engineering services, delivered directly by our founding expert.

Additional technical verticals and expert practitioners are in development. The service catalog will expand as the network grows.

About

The firm behind the network

PEN Engineering is a subsidiary of PEN LLC, a professional exchange network founded to connect verified technical experts with project-based demand across engineering and infrastructure sectors. The model is built on a conviction that high-stakes technical work requires more than a marketplace — it requires accountability at the contract level.

The firm was established in Chicago, Illinois, and is currently led by its founding expert, Hiva Nasiri, Ph.D. — a senior power systems engineer with over a decade of experience in DER integration, EMT simulation, distribution planning, and microgrid design. His academic work was conducted at the Illinois Institute of Technology under Professor Mohammad Shahidehpour, with industry mentorship from Dr. Shay Bahramirad, VP of T&D Engineering at PG&E.

Prior engagements span investor-owned utilities, independent power producers, engineering consultancies, and research institutions across the United States. Technical work includes large-scale DER interconnection studies, EMT model development and validation, and Python-based automation of engineering workflows.

Long-Term Vision

PEN Engineering is the first active vertical within the PEN LLC network. As the exchange model matures, additional technical disciplines and vetted practitioners will be added — creating a structured, accountable platform for specialized engineering engagement across energy, infrastructure, and adjacent sectors.
